We’re Back!

24 03 2012

Hello friends! KR and I are back after our very successful road trip to Nashville. It’s beautiful there right now – warm weather, fresh green leaves, and flowers popping everywhere! I couldn’t get over the amount of pollen on everything. There was a yellow layer of dust on every possible outdoor surface! We had a great time visiting with our friends, exploring the city, watching movies, and eating great food. My favorite was the BBQ from the Neeley’s restaurant right by Watkins college. We also watched The Muppets movie and the American version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Our hosts have two of the coolest cats in the world: Frank and Deano. They kept us pretty entertained all week, running around like fat little dogs. They were a riot! All in all it was a really great trip!

Yesterday morning my much anticipated mail finally arrived! My FingerPaints Twisted bottle was dropped off promptly at 10am. I was so excited to get the polish on my nails that I really didn’t let it dry as much as I should have between layers. Oh well! A little Seche Vite top coat to the rescue and I was a-okay! Friends, this polish is glorious. Everything I hoped it would be. Deliciously smooth, thick with rainbow flakes, Twisted is a giant birthday cake crammed into a glass bottle. I used two coats of Opi’s Black Onyx as my base coat, which is probably the best black polish that I have ever worked with! I wanted a party on my nails so I used three coats of Twisted.

I have a feeling I will be experimenting with quite a few different styles with Twisted. By far my most favorite nail polish to date ❤

I'm going to be off in a bit to go out to dinner to celebrate my dad's birthday! More pictures to come – I have lots of new goodies to share from the trip!

Mobile Testing

18 03 2012

Hello friends! Happy St Patrick’s day! I am writing to you from my iPhone. I’m testing the app to see how well it will work for me while I’m on the road. So far, so good!

Today I haven’t done much of anything exciting. I’m still feeling under the weather but we leave bright and early tomorrow morning and there was much necessary work to be done. While most of my friends were busy drinking green beer, I slowly got some house cleaning accomplished; (dishes, vacuuming, laundry…ok, KR’s laundry), ran some errands (and spent a few extra dollars than intended on some fab beauty products – whoops! ;D it’s ok I’m on vacation, mom), packed, and enjoyed a slice of this beautiful day through the interpretive art of turd-scooping in the backyard. I’m freshly showered, full from a mini cherry pie, and watching a crappy crime show on tv. I am officially fulfilled for the day.

The dergs are going to stay at my parent’s house for the trip. Ranger couldn’t care less. He’s passed out on the couch right now, dreaming and farting the night away. Rusty is a basket case. She needs to be as close to me as possible, prodding the bathroom door open with her nose, cuddling up near me on the couch. I’d take her with if she didn’t totally suck in the car! They will have fun at my parents. Lots of treats and lots of fun places to explore in the yard!

So I bet you are wondering what awesome beauty stuff I bought, huh? HUH? I’m in the process of investing in a better lighting tool to take my pictures. In the mean time, I must bore you with my words. Only my words.

Burt’s Bees Hand Salve
Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream
Seche Vite top coat
Seche Vite base coat
Lipsmacker’s Easter Egg (3 glosses)

Yes, I went a little crazy 🙂 Thorough reviews coming soon!!

Oh, and the best news I saved for last! Guess who is the newest eBay winner of one of my most coveted polishes ever?? Finger Paints Twisted is on its way to my mailbox as I type. Woo hoo! Mission complete. Not a bad day if I do say so myself.

Time to get so tired I can’t keep my eyes open, and then head to bed.

Goodnight!

Rainbow Splatter Nails

17 03 2012

Hello friends!  I spent a larger part of today working on a new nail design for the week.  In celebration of our road trip to Nashville in a few days, I decided to go for a really playful look.  Okay, it’s a splatter manicure – I was inspired by  The PolishAholic & Chalkboard Nails ~ thanks for the idea, ladies, and to The PolishAholic for her tutorial). Three hours of concentration, two Hulu documentaries, a handful of straws, a lot of Q-tips, plus 10 different bottles of nail polish later, and I’m done!  Well worth the effort I think.

Yes, I have little nubbin’ piano fingers and always will ❤

Want to recreate this look for yourself? Here’s a quick run-down:

~Paint your nails with a base coat.
~Select a series of colors of polish that you want to splatter.
~Collect several drinking straws and cut them in half.
~Choose your first color.
~Dip one end of the straw into the polish bottle, tap to remove excess, and position the end of the straw close to your target nail.
~One quick breath of air is all that is needed – this part is tricky and takes some practice. Just play with it!
~Repeat for all nails and all colors.

Try this:

~I covered my work area with several layers of paper towel. THIS IS MESSY!
~I swabbed my fingers with Q-tips after each color application to prevent clean-up hassle.
~I layered from darkest color to lightest, forgetting that the lighter colors could possibly show through. Luckily enough, the polish splatters apply thick enough that the polish opacity wasn’t a problem.

Here are the polishes I used (in application order):
China Glaze “White on White” – base coat
Sally Hansen “Deep Purple” – purple
NYC “Skin Tight Denim Creme” – dark blue
Sally Hansen “Blue Me Away!” – light blue
Revelon “Revelon Red” – red
Sally Hansen “Caribbean Coral” – pink
China Glaze “Tree Hugger” – green
Sally Hansen “Sun Kissed” – orange
Nicole by OPI “One Voice” – yellow
Julep “Fast Dry Topcoat” – top coat

Happy painting!!

xoxo,

The hard part for me about starting a blog is actually starting a blog.  So, Internet, here I am.  Starting my blog.  Mostly what I am is looking for the next road in my life.  I’m a recent college graduate and former model.  (Hey I walked the runway for Carolina Herrera and Zak Posen – it may have been just that one time but still!  I did it.  More on that later.)  Now I spend most of my day working as assistant manager at a dog day care surrounded by 100 drooling tongues and wagging tails.  What’s the next step?  Who knows!  Hopefully writing things down here will help me figure that out.
